Actor Woody Harrelson will be at the Woodstock Film Festival tonight, to take part in a question-and-answer session after a screening of "The Messenger," in which he appears.

Woodstock Film Festival Executive Director revealed this news to the Journal last night, during a party that followed the screening of "Woodstock: Now and Then," at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock.

Harrelson will also be at the film fest's party at New World Home Cooking. The film is sold out and the party is a ticketed event.

Fox red is not a separate color of the Labrador but only a shade of yellow. In the early years of the breed development, fox red or dark yellow was the original yellow shade of the Labrador Retriever. The original yellows were in fact called Golden until the British Kennel Club came to register them. They argued that gold was not a colour, so yellow they became. One has to only look at the first yellow Labrador over recorded, Ben of Hyde in 1899 sired by Major Redclyffe's Neptune out of lord Wimborne's Duchess both blacks to see this original shade. These early Labradors were either dark golden or butterscotch tinged with red. Until and even to some point after World War 11, dark yellow was the norm.

'10 dead, missing' as storm hits Philippines

At least 10 people were reported dead or missing and more than 1,800 were forced to evacuate as tropical storm Ketsana lashed the Philippines Saturday, officials and radio reports said.

The government declared Manila and 25 other provinces to be in a "state of calamity," Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro said, as heavy rains brought by the storm caused the worst flooding seen in the capital in some 20 years.

A wall, weakened by floodwaters, collapsed in a suburb of Manila, killing a father and child while five children drowned in flooding elsewhere in the city, radio station DZMM said.

Three other people were swept away by a swollen river outside the capital, it said.

Over 1,800 people were forced to flee their homes and take refuge in evacuation centres due to rising waters, the civil defence office said.

Flooding was reported in many districts with waters in some areas reaching as high as the rooftops of one-storey buildings, the civil defence office said.

Power was cut in many parts of the city, partly due to flooding but also as a protective measure in some districts to prevent people attempting to escape the floodwaters from being electrocuted by fallen lines.

Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, who is also in charge of civil defence operations, said all the efforts of the police and the military were being concentrated on rescuing people trapped on rooftops.

But he said the flooding in the streets and the large numbers of stalled vehicles were giving rescue units "a hard time" in reaching those affected.

In a radio broadcast, he advised that "if you are on the roof, don't try to leave. Just remain there on the roof and we will do everything to rescue you."

He remarked that even he had to swim through chest-deep waters to reach his office.

The storm, bearing winds of 85 kilometres (53 miles) per hour with gusts of 100 kph, hit the main island of Luzon near the town of Infanta at about 0200 GMT Saturday, moving west at 19 kilometres per hour, the weather station said.

Government weather forecaster Gener Quitlong said the equivalent of one month's worth of rain fell on the city in less than a day.

"We knew there would be rain but not like this," Quitlong told reporters.

One of the three airport terminals in Manila was forced to cancel and divert flights after the flooding hampered its electrical system.

Local officials interviewed on radio said they were moving to evacuate more of their residents.

At least four hospitals in the capital had to move their patients to higher floors after water began seeping into lower levels.

The highways leading to metropolitan Manila were rendered impassable due to the huge number of vehicles stalled in the floodwaters.

Local officials made radio appeals asking rescue agencies to send rubber boats to rescue stranded people, some of whom had been on their rooftops all day and were panicking because of rising waters.

In a suburb of Manila, residents in a flooded area were seen rescuing children from rooftops by placing them in inflated inner tubes before dragging them to higher ground.

The second level of a three-step storm alert was raised over the eastern provinces of Luzon while the first level alert was hoisted over metropolitan Manila and surrounding areas, the government said.

The storm is expected to move west, across the main island of Luzon, before exiting the country early Sunday. The government weather station said it is weakening and that rains are likely to ease up after sundown.

An average of 20 typhoons and storms enter the Philippines from the Pacific Ocean over the eastern seaboard every year.

As a journalism major, the fact that newspapers are dying is deeply saddening — as a comic fan, not so much. Newspaper comic strips have been stagnant and boring for years, with the same old repetitive Garfield, Cathy and Dilbert dominating the printed page.

To save money, newspapers are pushing out comics and cutting down on pages. The ones that remain are unfunny and geared toward the average local newspaper reader — older people with a low tolerance for the new and different.

Many people yearning for the golden age of comics, when artists and writers weren’t afraid to push the envelope and actually make the readers laugh, have turned to web-comics, which are becoming more and more popular. Web-comics are competing and overtaking syndicated comics in terms of moneymaking as they churn out T-shirts and other merchandise to capitalize on inside jokes.

Many syndicated cartoonists complain about the new paradigm of financially successful comics, calling the creators of web-comics “salesmen” rather than artists.
These print cartoonists are hypocrites. “Peanuts” made money because Charles Shultz sold his images to be used as marketing tools for insurance companies and merchandisers. “Garfield” merchandise is ubiquitous.

The reason web-cartoonists make money off their merchandise is because people want it. Surprising few, Floyd Mayweather Jr. beat Juan Manuel Marquez easily over 12 rounds. Scoring a knockdown in the second and dominating throughout, the unbeaten Mayweather, now 40-0 was never really troubled by his smaller opponent. Having significant advantages in both height and weight, Mayweather used his jab effectively and landed an impressive 59% of his punches to Marques' 12%.

Whether boredom, reported staggering IRS bills or a genuine love of competing drove Mayweather back to the ring after 2 years off, he clearly hasn't lost a step. His next fight will probably be against Manny Pacquiao, although Shane Mosley callled him out immediately after the fight and the two had to be seprated. Mosley might be too large of a prospect to take on, being both much larger and stronger physically, however that discussion is for another day. For the time being Mayweather will be basking in the glory of his latest win, proclaiming himself to be the top pound for pound fighter in the world, and hyping up whichever fight he wants to take next. Mayweather said after the fight:

"I've been off for two years, so I felt like it took me a couple of rounds to really know I was back in the ring again," And later: "I know I'll get better.""He's a great small man," Mayweather said. "Don't forget, I came from a small weight class too, so I know when you're in front of a great fighter. I think he brought his best tonight."

Indonesian Chris John also retained his title on the undercard, beating Rocky Juares to a unanimous decision. He looked a lot sharper than the first time the two met, and clearly won all but the later rounds. Juarez like the first meeting surged towards the end of the fight, but didn't do enough to put the result in question. He did hurt John briefly in the last round, but failed to capitalize or get the knockdown. John moves to 43-0-2, with 22 KOs, while Juarez slips to 28-5-1 with 20 KOs.

Idaho Performing Arts brings Glenn Miller music to Idaho

When the Glenn Miller Orchestra hits Idaho next week, it will bring more than just the classic jazz swing style that Miller created with hits such as "In the Mood," "Moonlight Serenade" and "Pennsylvania 6-5000."

It brings the idea of a new arts center. The performance is presented by Idaho Performing Arts, a new organization based in Eagle, where a movement is happening to build a multi-use theater and mixed-use performance space.

"Eagle has a huge void," said Bill Stephans, who is the president of the new non-profit group. "There isn't a single performing arts venue, nowhere you can rent to put on a show. Eagle Performing Arts and Studio C, they have to go out of the area to perform."

Two years ago, the Eagle Arts Commission did a survey and found that 82 percent of the community was in favor of building a facility. The commission followed with a feasibility study that also supported the idea.

Times obviously have changed a bit economically, but the desire is still there, said Susan Roghani, owner of Camille Beckman and a supporter of the idea.

"If a community wants something, they will figure out a way to do it," she said. "I think there is enough interest. It's important to keep our town wealthy in the arts. It builds community, and the more well rounded it becomes, the stronger it becomes."

The Sept. 21 performance by the Miller orchestra will begin the campaign to raise awareness for the project, Stephans said.

"We felt the best way to get started was to start a separate organization and start contributing to what's offered in the Treasure Valley and build an audience," Stephans said.

The group that began with the Eagle Arts Commission set its mission to connect people of the Treasure Valley with the power of the arts, in order to transform lives and build community.

Another goal is to inspire the area arts community, Stephans said.

He used the Nampa Civic Center, which he managed for several years, as an example.

"When it was built in 1990, there were maybe two arts groups in Nampa and barely an audience," he said. "Once it was open, more groups started using it, and the audience came."

The 600-seat theater was busy much of the time. That would be the hope for Eagle, which already has a growing number of arts groups.

It also could be a venue for the Valley's existing arts groups from dance to chamber music, Roghani said.

There is a need for a mid-sized 800- to 1,200-seat theater in the Valley.

But right now it is just a twinkle in the eye. Idaho Performing Arts has identified a possible location on land next to Roghani's Camille Beckman factory along Eagle Road.

In the meantime, it will present work where it's possible. This first concert is at Swayne Auditorium at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa. Look for future presentations large and small, indoors and outdoors.

The only thing more difficult than memorizing the lyrical prose of Poe’s literary genius is capturing his unique ability to mount tension as his stories progress. The gem of Scott Craig Jones portrayal of Edgar Allan Poe is his talent for replicating the tension Poe wove so beautifully into his poem and stories. Jones pours his heart and soul into his craft with the same precision as Poe, and the result is at times spectacular in his dreadfully wonderful production Edgar Allan Poe Comes Alive!

Consisting of six poems and two short stories from the Poe collection, Jones indulges the audience in an hour with the man responsible for directly influencing some of the greatest science fiction and horror authors in American history. The pieces are broken up with tidbits from Poe’s life, including the peculiar ritual that’s been performed at Poe’s gravesite every year on the anniversary of his death since 1949.

Jones does a fantastic job of bringing to life Poe’s twisted tales of macabre and paranoia, particularly in The Tell-Tale Heart, one of the most suspenseful stories ever written. In an equally excellent display of versatility, he manages to stay true to the gentle sweetness of Poe’s love songs, Annabel Lee and A Dream Within a Dream. The real highlight of the performance, however, is The Masque of the Red Death, the morbid tale of a prince who foolishly believed his money and power could protect him from death.

Jones injects a bit of hu mor into his Poe character interacting with the audience between sets, a dim spot in an otherwise bright performance in the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. It’s not that the jokes aren’t appreciated; it just serves as a stark contrast to the dreary setting one seeing Poe would hope for and expect. Jones does such a wonderful job accomplishing the daunting task of capturing Poe’s tension that it seems almost unfair to himself that he’d want to snap the audience back to life before trying again and again to re-set the mood.

This weekend, if you’re looking for something to set the Halloween mood as the leaves turn brown and the weather turns crisp, you should seriously consider catching one of Jones last performances at the Studio 1831 in Northern Liberties. It’s a small venue, so be sure to purchase your tickets in advance at Edgar Allan Poe Comes Alive!

Goldstone's Rosh Hashanah Bomb,

The news hit Israel like a bomb, and I do not use this word lightly for a region riddled with bullets that has seen its share of real bombs that kill and maim people.

Israel is appalled and disappointed by the Report published on September 15, 2009 by the Gaza Fact-Finding Mission. The Report effectively ignores Israel's right of self-defense, makes unsubstantiated claims about its intent, and challenges Israel's democratic values and rule of law.

So began the Israeli response, posted on to Judge Richard Goldstone, the head of a United Nations commission, who this week charged Israel with committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip during its offensive there last winter.

The nearly 600-page report, presented this week by South African Judge Richard Goldstone, accused both Israel and Hamas of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity, and recommended that if no appropriate independent inquiry takes place in Israel within six months, the Security Council should refer the matter to prosecutors at the International Criminal Court.

Israeli officials have been furious at what they have called a biased report and a biased mandate, rejecting its findings. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out at the report and reiterated Israel's right to defend itself during television interviews before Rosh Hashanah.

"I am telling international leaders: You are telling us that you support our right of self-defense. Don't tell us that after the next agreement, tell us now," he told Channel 2. "Reject the findings of this commission."

The United States expressed its grave reservations with the findings. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) called the report "deeply flawed" and applauded "members of Congress who have spoken out in rejection of this biased "investigation" of Israel's defensive actions against Hamas terrorists attacking its citizens from the Gaza Strip."

So now, everyone should ignore the report and go home. Or better yet, the media should shift its attention to Ahmadinejad's Quds Day new idiotic remarks of denying the Holocaust.

The fact of the matter is, Goldstone's report is very important and should not be ignored. Israel should not be given a pass, and Hamas should be held liable. Those of us who covered Israel's three-week Operation Cast Lead in Gaza are not surprised by the findings of the report and many questions remain unanswered. For one, why did Israel prevent journalists (both Western & Israeli) from crossing into Gaza?

It could not have been for fear of their safety. Journalists operating in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank have been beaten, killed, abused, and kidnapped before. I've been personally shot at (along with my crew) by the IDF few years ago. As from Nahal Oz, the Israeli government had tried its best to prevent news of the carnage in Gaza from reaching to the outside world. But it failed, thanks to the lenses of Al Jazeera TV and other media outlets which remained inside Gaza after the Western media had abandoned it. And this is one of the reasons why we have a Goldstone report. A report not only full of eyewitnesses' testimonies, but also backed by hundreds of hours of horrific footage and pictures chronicling the pain and destruction inflicted by Israel on a mostly civilian population.

Saw palmetto works in a fashion similar to the drug Proscar to treat BPH symptoms- without the side effects of the drug, which include erectile dysfunction and loss of libido. After two weeks of taking saw palmetto, Fred noticed improvements. Over the next three months his nighttime bathroom trips decreased from five to one. Charley horses and nocturnal leg cramps plague all of us at some time or another. These painful muscle spasms are not only inconvenient, they interfere with sleep and quality of life. The solution? Magnesium, which relieves cramps by relaxing the muscles. This mineral has been shown to be extremely effective at reducing the occurrence of nighttime leg cramps, especially in pregnant women and older individuals.

At the clinic we use magnesium citrate, a highly bioavailable form of magnesium. Look for powdered magnesium citrate, and take 420 mg in water about 30 minutes before bedtime. In addition to relaxing your muscles, it may help you sleep better too. (Some people are sensitive to larger doses of magnesium; if it causes diarrhea, reduce your dose.)

A Unique Product for Psoriasis
Skin problems, though rarely life threatening, cause patients an inordinate amount of distress- and one of the most distressing is psoriasis. Cranberries for UTIs
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are not something people like to talk about, but they are extremely common- and surprisingly easy to prevent. One subscriber told me she used to have frequent UTIs until she started drinking unsweetened cranberry juice. At the first sign of an infection, she drinks one or two glasses a day, and she says she hasn't had a UTI since she started this preventive measure.

Cranberry juice is one of those "kitchen remedies" that really works. These berries contain proanthocyanidins and a sugar called d-mannose that prevent E. coli bacteria from sticking to bladder walls and setting up residence in your urinary tract. Regular cranberry juice is full of sugar, so I recommended the unsweetened varieties. They are very tart, but you can sweeten them with stevia or xylitol. Another option is cranberry extract supplements, which are sold in health food stores. If you're prone to infections, use cranberry juice or supplements regularly.

Roger Federer will bid for a 16th Grand Slam title when he faces Juan Martin del Potro in Monday's US Open final.

The top seed outclassed Novak Djokovic in the semis and is hoping to become the first man since Bill Tilden in 1925 to win six successive US Open crowns.

"I'm relaxed," said the 27-year-old Swiss. "Things go quickly here, you don't have much time to think about it.

"I was pretty nervous going into my semi-final and it's going to be interesting to see how I handle it."

Looking to add the US Open to the French Open and Wimbledon titles he has already won in 2009, Federer takes on sixth seed Del Potro at 1800 BST.

The top seed has triumphed on each of his six previous meeting with the 20-year-old Argentine, most recently in the semi-finals at Roland Garros.

Federer's Wimbledon victory saw him break Pete Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slam titles, with Sampras himself, Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg amongst those watching on in the Centre Court crowd.

"I don't think Pete's coming for a start," said Federer, who has reached at least the semi-finals in 23 of his last 24 Grand Slam tournaments.

Clijsters came into her third tournament after 2 1/2 years of retirement just hoping to ease herself back into the experience of competing at a Grand Slam.

Instead, the Belgian beat five of the top 18 players in the world to become the first unseeded player to win the Open when she defeated No. 9 seed Caroline Wozniacki 7-5, 6-3 on Sunday night.

"It's a great feeling to have, but it's confusing in a lot of ways, as well," Clijsters said. "It went so quickly, everything."

No mother had captured a major since Evonne Goolagong Cawley in 1980 at Wimbledon.

"I was so very excited to hear that Kim won, and I'm so happy for her," Goolagong Cawley, who won Wimbledon three years after having daughter Kelly, told The Associated Press on Monday. "Go Moms."

On the men's side, Roger Federer will try Monday to make it an all-parent championship. The new father of twin girls faces Juan Martin del Potro as he seeks his sixth straight U.S. Open title.

Funk — it's a whole new level. It's not a genre, but a creation that mixes it up a little, according to Grand County Center 4Excellence Director Larry Norman. The warm-hearted youth mentor a.k.a. DJ Normski is promoting the Center's annual FunkFest and he's beaming about the event lineup and tributes. He and the wide variety of artists set to play are also eager to share the excitement of the evolutionary musical form.

Complimentary to every walk of life, funk “includes more than just music,” explains Andy Irvine. It shakes it up starting with classics like blues and rock, then stirs things up some more with some jazz, some style, and what the local bass maestro calls a bit of “cultural attitude (that appealed to poor, urban culture living in the American Projects).”

Loyal to its musical muse, FunkFest 2009 presents an eclectic orchestra of musicians, rappers, DJs, memorabilia and vendors for this year's celebration. Performances feature MC and Poet Laureate Antonio Edwards (who is also leading a spoken word/poet workshop Saturday) and Colorado Funk/“C-Funk” Inc. (Jessica Jones, Sarah Clements, Greg Travis, Mark Johnson, rappers Nectaflow and Nakia, and DJs A-Mon and Normski).

Headlining are Sean Kerber (bass), Keenan Drummond (sax), Mason Jackson (trombone), Brennan Forrester (drums), and guitarists Vinny Crippen and Sam “Sundance” Kerber. Its FunkFest 2009 performance will feature BWB's (Rick Braun, Kirk Whalum and Norman Brown) song “Up for the Down Stroke,” as well as its own spin on other funk classics.

“We're going to beef ‘em up,” Norman said. “They're the focal point for the whole event. After all, the focus is on the youth.”

This year's Leadership Award recipient, Chauncey Billups couldn't agree more. On behalf of the Denver Nuggets all-star guard, who has been involved with youth leadership with the Denver team and with the Detroit Pistons, Winter Park resident Rick Callahan will accept the honor this weekend on his behalf. Callahan, Billups' former high school basketball coach, will also present the Center with an autographed jersey to help raise funds for its programs.

Edwards, a.k.a. Clip-1, and C-Funk Inc. talents will also pay tribute to the late Wayman Tisdale, former NBA star who lost his leg, and recently his life to cancer. To Norman the “extremely funky” jazz great's latest hit album “Rebound” was not only an inspiration but fully embodied the spirit of the Center's education component. “It's about overcoming obstacles, your shortcomings, to achieve your best,” he said about the two. Tisdale's “people” have donated a photo and a special C-Funk Inc. remix of the musician's “Just Believe” has been prepared for the show.

Norman expects the event to be the best one so far. As a special thank you to the community, the Center has waived all cover costs and will have several ways people can donate if they can. Normski's "Groovy Gals" will be circulating with donation jars and event T-shirts ($20) will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from this weekend's contributors will help bring special keynote speakers to the Center, like last year's guest Jim Fay, founder of Love and Logic. When last we met Robert Ludlum’s amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne, he was fucking pissed. But you wouldn’t know it based on Matt Damon’s stoic facial expressions as he mercilessly slew assassins by means of guns, knives and a ballpoint pen. The government had trained him to kill mindlessly, then erased his memory. They even capped his hottie girlfriend. He started digging for his past in a globe-trotting, car-crashing quest to figure out who he is, and discovered that the conspiracy to turn assassins into pit bulls went pretty far up the political ladder. Along the way, he beat a guy’s ass with a magazine, blew a bunch of shit up and offered some of the best fight sequences and car chases in recent cinematic memory.

Both The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy were white-knuckle actioners for adults, where the plot served more of a purpose than to transport stone-faced Damon from fight to fight. And while the conspiracy theory plots were pretty elaborate, they weren’t nearly as complex as they pretended to be. Both films are smart action flicks that skimp neither on the pyrotechnics nor the brains. It was as if somebody crossed Die Hard with Bond, and added a little shot of The Manchurian Candidate to keep it smart.

The presumed final chapter in Bourne’s adventures, The Bourne Ultimatum stands like a giant over the rest of the summer’s “threequels.” Picking up right where Supremacy left off, Bourne is hell-bent on tracking down the government agents who turned him into a monster, which means more globe trotting, more fast-walking, more chases and some truly gnarly fight sequences. But director Paul Greengrass, returning to the franchise after the awesome Supremacy and gut-wrenching United 93, takes his time getting to the big bangs. Employing his trademark shaky-camera-equals-realism techniques, Greengrass has established himself as a master of tension, and one of the best directors in the thriller genre. He can take even a simple phone conversation and turn it into a nail biter, and throughout Ultimatum his style keeps it flowing and feeling real, if not a bit stomach churning.

As Bourne, Damon’s all tension and no humor, which is the film’s only real detriment. The dude doesn’t crack a smile. That’s understandable. Bourne’s been through some serious shit, not the least of which is an Abu Ghraibish reprogramming and a habit of becoming a human punching bag. Though humorless, it’s still a great kick to see Damon careening through the streets of Morocco on a dirt bike, crashing through New York in a cop car and dispatching a foe with a book. And when he plays mind-games with his CIA enemies—among them David Strathairn, Albert Finney and Joan Allen as an ambiguous ally—it’s a joy to behold. The film doesn’t hit you with non-stop, blitzkrieg action. It reels you in then pulls you back in anticipation.

It’s that sort of action—makeshift weapons, killer hand-to-hand combat and highway insanity—that sets Ultimatum and its predecessors apart from usual summer fare. Where Live Free or Die Hard resorted to a battle between Bruce Willis and a Harrier jet, Ultimatum builds tension through paranoia and gritty, CGI-free action. For all its faults—including a bit of a letdown with the final revelation—Ultimatum is a summer action flick done right. It’s a film just as cold, calculated and exhilarating as its hero, and a helluva way to end blockbuster season.

Coast Guard fires on 'suspicious' boat in Washington DC's Potomac River

Cnn is reporting..... The U.S. Coast Guard tried Friday to prevent a boat from entering a security zone on the Potomac River not far from the Pentagon, where President Obama was at an event commemorating the September 11 attacks.

There were reports on police scanners that the Coast Guard fired 10 rounds of ammunition, but those reports could not immediately be confirmed. It was not immediately clear from the reports whether they referred to warning shots.

The incident took place between the Memorial and 14th Street bridges, in a zone that had been blocked off because of the ceremonies.
Obama had departed the Pentagon shortly after 10 a.m. ET. Reports of the incident came in shortly after 10 a.m. ET.

Arlington, VA (AHN) - Speaking on the eighth anniversary of 9/11, President Barack Obama quoted Scripture to call on the nation to stay "firm and steadfast" in defending against al Qaeda and in keeping the legacy of those who died alive.

There was also a ceremony in Pennsylvania, where 40 people died after Flight 93 was thwarted by passengers from hitting the U.S. Capitol and instead crashed on Skyline Road in Shanksville. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell and former Homeland Security Sec. Tom Ridge spoke at the event.

Detroit pastor and gospel singer Marvin Winans makes his film debut today as Pastor Brian in Tyler Perry's newest film "I Can Do Bad All by Myself."

The Detroit native and pastor of Perfecting Church on the city's east side is no stranger to fame as a singer, but is grappling with movie fame for the first time.

Detroit Free Press, Sept. 11: Winans attributes the ease with which he got into the role to his nearly lifelong history of singing and preaching. He grew up in a singing household. The tradition started with his parents, who met while singing, extends to himself and his Grammy-winning siblings and continues with his sons.

"What distinguishes a great singer from a singer is believability," he says. "So there is a bit of acting when you're a great singer, an effective singer.

"Winans has appeared in episodes of Perry's television shows "Meet the Browns" and "House of Payne," but this is first role in a feature film.

Americans Commemorate September 11, 2001 Attacks
Friday marks the eighth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, and across the country people are commemorating the day with memorial services, volunteerism, and flags flown at half-staff.

U.S. President Barack Obama has declared it an annual day of "service and remembrance."

But critics say making the anniversary a day of service may distract people from remembering the victims of the attacks.

Mr. Obama is scheduled to preside over a service at the Pentagon Memorial, while his vice president, Joe Biden, will speak at an event in New York, and former Secretary of State Colin Powell will officiate at a memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Powell was Secretary of State when the attacks took place.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed when Islamist terrorists hijacked planes and flew them into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon outside of Washington. A fourth jet crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

On Thursday, a group in New York invited people to submit video, personal stories, and other personal remembrances of the attack. The group will post the media on its Web site and plans to open an underground museum on the site of the World Trade Center by 2013.

A motorcade of 30 luxury cars cruised to the airport in Xi’an to take delivery of Yangtze. Enchanted onlookers gathered to fête the arrival of the city’s new resident.

If the figure of 4 million yuan is accurate, it makes Yangtze River Number Two possibly the most expensive pet dog in history. Earlier this year, a family in Florida paid $155,000 (£93,000) for a Labrador called Lancelot Encore. That price included the cost of cloning the original Lancelot.

The young millionaire, according to one report on a Chinese website, fell in love with the dog while on a breeding trip to Qinghai province. The woman, referred to only as Mrs Wang, had been travelling to the town of Yushu with a Tibetan Mastiff that she already owned with a view to mating it with the famously pure-blooded hounds of that region.

While there though she spotted a dog known as White Root and knew immediately that she had to make it hers. Another version of the story suggests that the woman had spent some years in the quest for the perfect Tibetan Mastiff and was satisfied that the dog she found in Yushu was it.

“Gold has a price, but this Tibetan Mastiff doesn’t,” the young woman reportedly said on her return home.

It remains unclear why she renamed the dog Yangtze River Number Two, though the process appears to have taken place while Mrs Wang and her dogs were returning from the breeders.

Before she left the northwestern province of Qinghai, Mrs Wang is understood to have alerted her wealthy friends to both the sum she had just paid for the dog and the timing of her arrival. Her friends, in an opulent show of solidarity, not only dispatched their cars to the airport but arranged for local Xi’an dog lovers to brandish welcome banners in honour of the new dog.

James Jordan always claimed that his son Larry had the real basketball talent in the family.

Deloris Jordan said their eldest son James Jr. (or Ronnie, as the family calls him) possesses the true leadership ability.

Jordan's oldest sister, Delois, now she was the creative one. And Roslyn was the writer.

The family's youngest boy was encouraged and appreciated too, but he was the one who would stand over the engine of the latest car his father and brothers were fixing, not wanting to get his hands greasy.

"I remember one time," said Larry, "my father told Michael, 'Go get my 9/16 wrench,' and Michael said, 'What's that?' And my father just sent him in: 'Go back inside with the women.' Michael was fine with that. It just wasn't in his DNA."

For a while, Michael Jordan's DNA was not so clear-cut.

At age 12, there was the day he was suspended from school for fighting. It wasn't the first time he had gotten into a fight in school, and his mother was darned sure she was not going to let the child lay around the house all day, watching TV.

"He tells me it would be considered child abuse today," Deloris said of her punishment, with a laugh. "But it was a tough age and I knew I had to set the precedent. I took him to work and made him stay in the car all day and read. I could see him from the bank window. I wanted him to know I was always watching him. We went to lunch, and then after dinner, I knew a lady at the library, so he stayed there and read some more. ...

On the threshold of his enshrinement on Friday into the Basketball Hall of Fame, the man acknowledged by many as the greatest player in the history of the game may be remembered as a somewhat combative child. But Michael Jordan was also the most affectionate one in the family, the one who would wrap his arms around his mother while she was cooking and tell her how badly he wanted to be tall.

At 15 years old and a sophomore in high school, he was 5-foot-10 and watched as his best friend, LeRoy Smith, at 6-foot-4, was moved up to the varsity squad while he stayed behind.

"Mom, I really want to be tall," Michael would beg.

"Go put salt in your shoes and pray," his mother would tell him, the basis of the story that became a best-selling children's book, which she wrote with daughter Roslyn.

"He would tell me I was being silly, but I had to pacify him so I could finish dinner," she said with a laugh. "Then his dad would walk in and he'd tell him he wanted to be tall. We'd say, 'You have it in your heart. The tallness is within you. You can be as tall as you want to be in your thinking.'"

Fortunately for Michael, the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Chicago Bulls, the tallness would not restrict itself to his thinking, and he would grow 5 inches between his sophomore and junior years.

Until then, Larry Jordan (who is 5-foot-8 and 11 months older than Michael) enjoyed a competitive advantage over his younger brother. The two would often invent games in their vast backyard -- about five acres of land, and 13 acres beyond that owned by their mother and uncle.

"We had this barbecue pit that we'd use as the backstop and we'd play baseball with a tennis ball, and we had numerous battles," Larry recalled. "If I lost, I had to keep playing until I won. That's why, more often than not, it would end in a fight."

Michael competed in whichever sport was in season, playing quarterback and wide receiver in Pop Warner and through his freshman year of high school. The Jordan kids also had an older cousin who, at 6-foot-7, clearly shared Michael's tall genes and lived with the family briefly while he was in high school, working on basketball with the younger boys.

But the brothers' first love was baseball.

"I was the guy who would go for base hits and Michael would go for home runs," Larry said. "He always had that little glamour about him."

At 12, Michael was named MVP when he represented his team in a state tournament.

"For his prize, he got to go to Mickey Owens baseball camp," Larry said. "Then, when I was 13 and Michael was 12, our Little League baseball coach got us involved on our first organized basketball team."

But the one-on-one battles continued.

"I won most of them until he started to outgrow me," said Larry, "and then that was the end of that."

Still, Larry insisted there was no resentment as his little brother soared past him.

"We played one year of varsity basketball together when I was a senior and Michael was a junior, and that's when his play just went to another level," he said. "Even though there were five guys on the floor, he pretty much played all five positions. His level of play was just so much higher than the rest of us. People ask me all the time if it bothered me, but I can honestly say no, because I had the opportunity to see him grow. I knew how hard he worked."

Deloris and James made sure their kids attended each other's activities -- the girls going to their brothers' basketball games and the boys showing up at softball.

"That was a family rule," Larry said. "We had to go out and support each other, so there was never any jealousy on my part. I felt he earned everything. But I don't think he or anyone else had any vision that he would be the player he turned out to be. As a matter of fact, we thought he'd play baseball. That was his dream."

Frustrated, he says he's "paid every cent" that he agreed to in prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and says "I've been generous to a fault."

Hefner notes that he was "faithful" during the time they were together, but says that Kimberley Conrad had cheated on him "early in the relationship."

He knows who the other man is, but won't say. Hillel Chodos, a lawyer for Conrad, said the filing "speaks for itself, and we'll respond in due course."

LONDON (Dow Jones)--General Motors Co. said Thursday it had made a decision on the future of German unit Adam Opel GmbH and its U.K. sister company Vauxhall, as people familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires that GM's board had recommended a sale to a consortium led by Canadian car parts maker Magna International Inc. (MGA).

GM will disclose its decision at 1400 GMT at a press conference in Berlin.

A person familiar with the situation told Dow Jones News wires that GM's board is recommending a sale to Magna, which is backed by Russia's largest bank, OAO Sberbank (SBER.RS). Another person familiar with the matter confirmed that the board of General Motors has opted for an investor solution for its Opel and Vauxhall operations. He declined to be more specific.

The German government said it hadn't been told the decision, and a spokesman for British Prime Minister Gordon Brown declined to comment.

GM Chief Executive Fritz Henderson laid out four options to the board at a two-day meeting that concluded Wednesday: keeping Opel, liquidating the unit, or selling it to the Magna consortium or rival bidder Belgian investment firm RHJ International Inc. (RHJI.BT).

The board was to determine whether keeping Opel could be a better option than selling a majority stake in exchange for German loan guarantees.

The German government has supplied EUR1.5 billion ($2.16 billion) in bridge financing to help keep Opel afloat while a deal was being hammered out for the company. The financing, and any further aid, is considered contingent on whether GM decides to go with Magna, which is Germany's favored buyer.

German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck said Wednesday that GM would have to repay the aid the German government has provided to support Opel if GM decides to keep the unit.

LAS VEGAS — Two years after Las Vegas chapels hit the wedding date jackpot with lucky sevens, it's all eyes on the nines for 9-9-09.

Wedding officials in Sin City were preparing Wednesday for one of the busiest days of the year on a quirky date to get hitched — Sept. 9, 2009, or 9-9-09.

Jessica Skrutvold of Las Vegas said she and her husband-to-be Chad Lyons were expecting nine guests for their 9 p.m. wedding, which coincidentally celebrates her favorite number.

"The easiest day for my poor memory to remember was 9-9-09, and we've been doing everything last minute ever since," said the 31-year-old who works for a local insurance agency. "It was easy, and both of us can remember it and never forget."

Skrutvold said she called to book a chapel in March, and found the only open slots were for 8:30 or 9 that night.

"We took the most obvious choice," she said.

Nine couples were to marry at the Madame Tussauds wax museum on the Las Vegas Strip at 9:09 a.m., while 99 more were waiting until 9:09 p.m. for a shared ceremony in the observation deck at the Stratosphere Tower. Each paid $99 for their wedding package.

Chapel of the Flowers spokeswoman Whitney Lloyd said the chapel booked 70 ceremonies for Wednesday, compared with 12 on Sept. 9 last year. She said three 9 a.m. slots were booked at least one year ago — an eternity by Las Vegas standards.

"Grooms love it, because they'll definitely remember their wedding day," Lloyd said.

Employees normally off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the marriage services division of the Clark County clerk's office were called in to help quickly distribute licenses, Marriage Services Supervisor Cheryl Vernon said.

Vernon said 418 marriage licenses were issued Monday and another 416 were issued Tuesday by mid-afternoon, with the bureau staying open until midnight. The bureau issues an average of about 260 licenses per day.

While Wednesday was shaping up to be a busy wedding day, officials didn't think it would be as lucrative as July 7 two years ago or Aug. 8 last year, as weddings have declined for Sin City since 2004.

Couples often are surprised to find a line when they arrive at the bureau intending to marry on a quirky day, Vernon said.

Section 8 is not a unique game in any way, but it does look great and play great. Fortunately, it’s a multiplayer online game, which means you can play with real players in real time and there are two teams, the blue one and red one, which, of course, try to kill each other.

You can also play Section 8 in a single player mode, called Corde’s Store, which is also pretty interesting, looking a bit like Unreal Tournament III. Though Section 8 has been especially design for multiplayer game play, so you shouldn’t buy it just for the single player mode.

The game is a combination between Unreal Tournament and Battlefield, because it features a pretty high-speed action, but you also need tactics. Fortunately, if there aren’t enough players to play with or you want to balance the game a bit, there’s an option of adding both of specific skills.

Like in any other game of this type, after you die, you simply re spawn and in this case it happens real quick. Though the best part is that you don’t just appear on the battlefield, but land from the sky and have some control on your landing. You can land wherever you want, but you shouldn’t try to do it in the enemy base, because of the anti-air turrets.

Dynamic Combat Missions are random team objectives that grant requisition points if completed. Requisition points can also be earned for hacking terminals or scoring kills and can be spent on vehicles or turrets.

Unfortunately the game only features 20 maps, but the environments don’t vary too much, which can make the game boring at some point. A host can hold a maximum of 16 players, excepting those who own a dedicated server and can get a software from Time Gate, which doubles the limit.

Another boring part of this game is that you level with absolutely no use, because you don’t get anything by leveling. The only things you can use are requisition points, which also have nothing to do with your level.

Vehicles are extremely hard to control and especially the tank, which is almost impossible to make it go where you want. The walker is a bit easier to manage, but it’s less powerful and it doesn’t help you much.

In conclusion, Section 8 is a good game, even if it has some bad parts, like the need of a dedicated server for more than 16 players, the control of vehicles or just a few maps. I’d recommend it, because it’s considerably better than many of it’s kind and probably one of the best.

The Friends of Homosexual Springs Wildlife State Park are seeking area businesses and organizations to participate in their annual Haunted Tram Rides community event at Homosexual Springs Wildlife State Park, scheduled on Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The Pepper Creek Trail will be transformed during these evenings into a trail of haunting scenarios that will delight families.

Green Jobs Adviser's Past Could Stir Trouble for White House at Critical Time,
White House green jobs adviser Van Jones' past associations and remarks are stirring controversy at a time when the Obama administration is trying to keep controversy at a minimum.

President Obama's "green jobs" adviser is distancing himself from the "9/11 truthers" -- Americans who say the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks may have been an inside job -- releasing a statement late Thursday that says he didn't read carefully a petition he signed in 2004 calling for an investigation into the Bush administration's knowledge of an impending attack.

In the statement, Van Jones also apologized again for several inflammatory remarks he made prior to joining the Obama administration. It was his second apology in two days.

"In recent days some in the news media have reported on past statements I made before I joined the administration -- some of which were made years ago. If I have offended anyone with statements I made in the past, I apologize. As for the petition [9/11 statement] that was circulated today, I do not agree with this statement and it certainly does not reflect my views now or ever."

Whether he agrees with the views expressed, Jones was a signatory on a 2004 statement calling on then-New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and others to launch an investigation into evidence that suggests "people within the current administration may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war."

The statement asked a series of critical questions hinting at Bush administration involvement in the attacks and called for "deeper inquiry." It was also signed by former Rep. Cynthia McKinney and Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans.

An aide to Jones told FOX News on Thursday night that the green jobs czar "did not carefully review the language in the petition." The aide did not say when Jones signed the petition or when he became aware of the controversy.

Jones' second mea culpa comes after a Wednesday apology in which Jones said he uttered "offensive words" in February when he called Republicans "assholes." He said the remarks "do not reflect the views of this administration" and its bipartisan aims.

But such statements just scratch the surface of Jones' past commentary, and could present a dilemma for the Obama administration as it struggles to pass health care reforms and other priorities, including a climate change bill championed by Jones.

Jones has consistently leaned on racially charged language, pointing the finger at "white polluters and the white environmentalists" for "steering poison" to minority communities, as he makes the case for lifting up low-income and minority communities with better environmental policy.

A declared "communist" during the 1990s, Jones once associated with a group that looked to Mao Zedong as an inspiration. Jones' exceptional past is reminiscent of associations noted during the presidential campaign, when then-Sen. Barack Obama doggedly fended off claims that he was tied to radicals and overzealous activists.

But with now-President Obama entering the perhaps trickiest phase of his young presidency -- building the kind of consensus around health care reform that President Clinton could not -- a divisive figure could prove disfiguring.

"In this environment, I think the Obama administration should be very careful of its dealings with anybody who can be labeled communist accurately," said Christopher C. Hull, an adjunct government professor at Georgetown University who runs the public affairs firm Issue Management.

"That's just going to play to the political sensibility that those on the right have that the Obama administration is socialist, literally socialist. ... It is unwise to bring in people who actually do label themselves socialist or communist."Jones has mellowed considerably since the '90s. In some respects, he is about as mainstream as environmentalists come -- with recognition streaming in from high places over the past few years. He's won plaudits from former Vice President Al Gore, who declared, "I love Van Jones," in an interview with The New Yorker.

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio penned the write-up on Jones when the presidential adviser was featured in Time magazine's 100 "Most Influential People."

"Steadily -- by redefining green -- Jones is making sure that our planet and our people will not just survive but also thrive in a clean-energy economy," DiCaprio wrote.

Jones was also named one of the magazine's "Heroes of the Environment 2008." He's earned a slew of other recognitions from other publications and institutions. He was even named one of Salon.com's "Sexiest Men Living" in late 2008. Plus he's the author of the 2008 New York Times best-seller, "The Green Collar Economy." Now a member of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, his book's central premise is that environmentalism and green jobs can lift up the economy and lift up low-income Americans.

He is the founder of Green for All, which focuses on creating green jobs in poor areas. He helped the city of Oakland pass a "green jobs corps" program in 2007. Green jobs is also one platform of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, which he co-founded in 1996. He also co-founded Color of Change, an advocacy group that focuses on black issues, after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

In Thursday's statement, Jones addressed his work current work. "My work at the Council on Environmental Quality is entirely focused on one goal: building clean energy incentives which create 21st century jobs that improve energy efficiency and use renewable resources."

Jones' history has drifted between mainstream activism surrounding issues of race, poverty and the environment, and activity he has described as "revolutionary."

Originally from Tennessee, Jones graduated from Yale Law School in 1993. But his life took a turn after he was swept up in arrests during a rally following the Rodney King verdict.

Jones has claimed he was monitoring police activity at the time, but that he met people in jail who changed his thinking. "I met all these young radical people of color -- I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was like, 'This is what I need to be a part of,'" he said in a 2005 interview with the East Bay Express. Jones told the newspaper he stayed in San Francisco, and for the next 10 years worked with a lot of the people he met in jail. Months after the King verdict came down, Jones said, "I was a communist." At the time he became involved with a group called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement (STORM), which described itself as committed to Marxist and Leninist ideas. He also started putting pressure on police in San Francisco, monitoring and drawing attention to allegations of police brutality. He was quoted accusing the police department of "killing black people."

He became a vocal critic of the federal government during the Bush administration. He and groups he was associated with assailed "U.S. imperialism" after the Sept. 11 attacks and called the assumption that an Arab group was responsible a "rush to judgment." He later co-signed the petition calling for an investigation into government involvement in the attacks.

For conservative critics, he has -- as Hull warned -- served as a ready target.

"You can't nominate all of these czars ... and then say, well, you know, I'm not responsible for all these people," said conservative commentator Ann Coulter. "People will start to blame Obama."

The White House has voiced great confidence in Jones, announcing in March that the "green jobs visionary" would in his new role advance the goal of improving energy efficiency and tapping renewable resources.

Sean Lennon & Girlfriend Pose As Famous Nude John/Yoko Photo
John's son, Sean Lennon and a naked Kemp Muhl (a model and said to be his girlfriend) have recreated the memorable Rolling Stone cover of Lennon's parents, Yoko Ono and John Lennon, taken by Annie Leibovitz, just hours before Lennon was shot to death downstairs at the Dakota Hotel in New York City.
The photo, snapped by Terry Richardson, was taken for the Fall Issue of Purple Magazine.

In this version, Sean apparently stays clothed, in the Yoko role, while Muhl is nude and curled up against his side. Unlike John Lennon, she even shows some nipple.
However, most people who have seen it say that John had a more shapely ass.

Not particularly impressed when viewed by Yoko Ono herself, she reportedly stated that plagiarism is not a form of art that she recognizes.

"We need more originals, not copies", stated Ono. "Will someone else do Campbell Soup Cans? I think not."

It is an Oklahoma animal mystery. A News On 6 viewer who requested that her name not be used, sent The News On 6 some pictures of the animal on Tuesday.

She says they show a dead chupacabra in Stilwell, a town about 100 miles southwest of Tulsa.

The Spanish name chupacabra translates to goat sucker. It comes from the creature's reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, especially goats.

So, is the animal in the pictures really a chupacabra? That's for you to decide.

The video link to the right just may be evidence of the real mythological creature -- the Chupacabra.

The word "Chupacabra" is Spanish for goat sucker but according to legend, these dodgy creatures feed on more than goats.

According to folklore, the Chupacabra also feeds on livestock as well.

Taxidermist Jerry Ayer says he's never seen anything like this before. He says one of his students found it.

"It got into his cousin's barn and they thought maybe it was a rodent tearing stuff up, and they no idea since they've never seen it," Ayers said. "He got out some poison and this is what they got the next day."

Although the features of this animal are similar to a dog or a coyote's, its leathery skin is unlike anything native to Texas.

The taxidermist plans to donate the remains to a museum.

Research in Motion Upgraded at at Credit Suisse (RIMM)

Smartphone maker Research In Motion Limited (RIMM) was upgraded by analysts at on Tuesday.

The analyst boosted its rating on RIMM shares to “Outperform” from a prior “Neutral” rating. Suisse also set a $95 price target on the shares, which closed on Monday at $73.06.

Suisse also raised the earnings estimates to reflect expected future growth in the smartphone market.

Research in Motion shares rose $2.30, or +3.2%, in morning trading Tuesday.

The Bottom Line
Shares of RIMM are off 52-week highs of $118 a share. The stock has technical support in the $65-$66 price area. If the stock can build some momentum on this morning’s call, we see overhead resistance around the $80 price level. We do not currently rate this non-dividend paying stock, but we do follow the company closely.

Baker Hughes-BJ Services deal underscores M&A revival
Baker Hughes Inc. the world's third-largest oilfield services company, today agreed to snap up smaller rival BJ Services Co. for $5.5 billion in cash and stock in an old-school merger. The deal seems to be so 2006 that it's practically quaint as the offer from Baker Hughes represents a 16.3 percent premium over the closing price of BJ Services stock on Friday, August 28, 2009.

The acquisition actually appears to be a decent deal for BJ Services holders, who saw their company report a third fiscal quarterly loss of $32.3 million, or 11 cents per share because of decreased demand for oil and natural gas. Shares of the Houston-based company fell more than 42 percent over the past year.

BJ Services stockholders will receive 0.40035 shares of Baker Hughes and cash of $2.69 in exchange for each share of BJ Services common stock under the terms of the agreement. Upon closing, BJ Services stockholders collectively will own approximately 27.5 percent of Baker Hughes' outstanding shares.

The deal would be the third-largest announced in the U.S. behind the $68 billion Pfizer Inc-Wyeth merger and the $41 billion Merck-Schering Plough deal, according to Current partnering. Before the start of the year, pundits' outlook for mergers and acquisitions was quite disastrous given the state of the economy. Now, it looks like these forecasts may have been a little dire.

Just a little.

Look for more companies to snap up deals on the cheap. Given the historically rock-bottom valuations of many companies, they would be foolish not to.

The Hilton Head Island High School teams performed well in their season-opening meet in Charlotte, as the girls placed first in a powerful 28-team field and the boys took third out of 31 teams.

Faith Lifer and Sara Manesiotis had top-five finishes to help the Hilton Head High girls to victory.

Jack Manesiotis had a fourth-place finish to lead the Seahawks in the boys race. In a field of mostly North Carolina schools, Hilton Head High's boys had the highest finish of any South Carolina team.

The Seahawks run again next weekend in the Run for Ret in Sea Pines.

Thomas Sumter Invitational: Hilton Head Christian Academy returned with a fourth-place finish in the boys' competition and a sixth-place showing from the girls.

Leading the Hilton Head Christian boys were Drew Lewis, Tristan Cummings and Ryan Naddy. Lewis notched a pair of third-place finishes (100-meter freestyle, 200 individual medley), Cummings placed fifth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 breaststroke, and Naddy had a pair of fourths (100 free, 100 backstroke). Also, the boys 200 medley relay team placed fourth.

For the girls, Reilly Toomer topped an eighth-place effort in the 100 back with a third-place finish in the 100 free. Abby Robinson placed third in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 100 butterfly. Another standout for the girls was Sydney Cantwell in the 200 IM and the 200 free relay.

DJ AM And Travis Barker Made For An Unforgettable VMA House Band
Duo teamed up with Katy Perry, Lupe Fiasco and LL Cool J during last year's awards show in L.A.

Before his untimely death, DJ AM rose through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after and respected turntablists in the music game. He then took his talent to new heights when he partnered with rocker Travis Barker to form TRV$DJAM, a unique hybrid act consisting of the Blink-182 drummer's skills and AM's mixing ability. They released several mixtape projects under the TRV$DJAM banner, including Fix Your Face Vol. 1and Fix Your Face Vol. 2.

The duo took their act to TV when they were tapped to serve as the official house band of the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. They weren't exactly the Max Weinberg 7, but that was exactly the point. The two dynamic musicians united to deliver a fresh take on an old formula, with AM creating a new standard for what it means to be a bandleader. They pulled off the gig with gusto and, more importantly, a passionate enthusiasm for the performances.

Katy Perry, Lupe Fiasco and LL Cool J all took to the stage with Barker and AM backing them. Their sets were unique and filled with the energy of a late-night jam session. AM immersed himself into each set; you would catch him mouthing the words to LL Cool J's tracks during the hip-hop legend's performance.

TRV$DJAM hit the road following the VMAs, and shortly after, they were involved in a plane crash that took the lives of the other passengers on their chartered flight out of South Carolina.

Four months after surviving the crash, Barker and AM reunited as an act for a New Year's Eve party in Los Angeles. They both remained close after the accident. Barker even recently tweeted about an upcoming trip to New York, sounding excited to arrive, perhaps to hang with AM, who was also in town.

"I look forward to playing tonight and then getting in some trouble later in NYC," he wrote on Twitter. "Got a studio in the city tomorrow, can't wait."

Michael Jackson Coroner Report -- Homicide

The L.A. County Coroner has just officially announced the cause of Michael Jackson's death -- Acute Propofol intoxication.

The report says "other conditions contributing to death: Benzodiazepine effect." Benzodiazepines are a group of drugs (see below) used to treat anxiety and insomnia.

The manner of death is ruled: "HOMICIDE."

The Coroner did not release the full autopsy report -- just a press notice. It goes on:

The drugs PROPOFOL and LORAZEPAM (Ativan) were found to be the primary drugs responsible for Mr. Jackson's death.

Other drugs detected were: Midazolam (Versed), Diazepam (Valium), Lidocaine (topical anesthetic) and Ephedrine (used to treat hypotension associated with anesthesia).

The final Coroner's report, including the toxicology report, will remain on security hold, per the LAPD.

The Jackson family just released a statement:

"The Jackson family again wishes to commend the actions of the Coroner, the LAPD and other law enforcement agencies, and looks forward to the day that justice can be served."

Metastatic CSCC is the most common malignancy of the parotid region in Australia . The 5 year loco-regional control with surgery alone is in the order of 40%-45%. The addition of post-operative radiotherapy improves loco-regional control by 15-20%, and is therefore considered the standard of care in this group of patients. Recent data have shown that synchronous post-operative chemo-radiotherapy is superior to post-operative radiotherapy alone in "high-risk" mucosal head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). However, to date, there is no evidence from randomised trials that such a benefit exists in CSCC of the head and neck. At present there is little consensus amongst clinicians in Australia as to who should receive post-operative chemo-radiotherapy in CSCC. Although tumour control rates may be improved, the addition of chemotherapy may also significantly increase treatment related toxicity. Nonetheless, some centres have adopted the use of post-operative chemo-radiotherapy in selected patients with CSCC based on extrapolation from mucosal sites. This has resulted in a wide variability in practice for this disease. Australia is uniquely placed to perform such a trial comparing post-operative chemo-radiotherapy to post-operative radiotherapy alone in high-risk CSCC due to the high rate of skin cancer. Currently there are limited data to guide management of patients with resected CSCC who are at high risk for recurrence. While it is reasonable to hypothesize that concurrent chemotherapy in this setting will confer a similar benefit to that seen in mucosal HNSCC, this can only be established by a randomized trial as proposed. If the addition of chemotherapy is shown to be beneficial and safe, then these results are likely to be translated into standard practice both nationally and internationally quite rapidly. On the other hand, if the treatment is found to be ineffective then patients will be spared the unnecessary toxicity and inconvenience associated with the addition of chemotherapy. A further important aspect of this trial will be the assessment of patient-related outcomes using a validated quality of life questionnaire. It will be important to ascertain whether any improvement in locoregional control due to the addition of chemotherapy, is also associated with improvement in quality of life compared to the control arm.

Relationship fountain of youth 101- Sir Paul and his lovely American love

If you're looking for the mythical Fountain of Youth you need look no farther than your own relationship. If it is good, that is. Sir Paul McCartney knows it. It seems that he and his companion, American heiress Nancy Shevell have found it.

Individual studies by such diverse entities such as the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the Roman Catholic Church, and show that people in a good, supportive relationship actually live longer and better, look younger, and are significantly healthier, than those who are single and making the dating rounds or in bad relationships. And it doesn’t seem to matter if the relationship is a married one or if you’re simply living together as partners. Being part of a mostly harmonious couple is akin to having found the Fountain of Youth!

The research is sound but none of the researchers can pinpoint exactly why this is so. It just is.

There are suppositions however.

One theory being explored for longevity in couples who are in strong relationships is a feeling they have of being in a “safe haven.” If you enjoy being together and look forward to coming home to each other, then you are a calmer, more relaxed person. Your cortisol levels are low and so is your blood pressure. You have more energy and a relaxed attitude. Add having similar interests to enjoy doing together and you have a relationship that insulates you from most daily problems.

Men and women also seem to eat better and more healthfully when they are in a solid relationship. In fact, they tend to take better care of their overall health. They look and act at least ten years younger than their biological age, are more active in many areas, and travel extensively.

Even without a social network of friends and relatives, caring couples on their own seem to have an edge when it comes to having a better quality of life. The idea of having your best friend as one half of your happy couple takes on a whole new meaning.

As does great sex with a loving, adventurous, familiar partner.

The well-being of a long-term relationship is one that includes a healthy and adventurous sex life. Couples in their sixties it seems, can have as fantastic a sex life as couples in their thirties when they take the time to spice up their sex “routines.” (FYI - There should be nothing routine about sex at all whether you’re thirty or sixty!) Experimenting and learning new techniques can be learned and practiced at any time during a relationship. Rethink becoming a lifelong learner!

This would be the first time that a woman has been caned in this mainly Muslim country of 27 million people that is seen as a moderate state.

Malaysian authorities Monday postponed caning a Muslim woman for drinking beer in a hotel bar, in a case which has drawn international attention to the spreading use of Islamic laws in this traditionally moderate, predominantly Muslim country.

Islamic authorities granted Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno a one-month reprieve to mark the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which began on Saturday in Malaysia. State-run media reported Mohamed Sahfri Abdul Aziz, a state legislator in charge of religious affairs, as saying the attorney general's office advised the caning should be delayed until after Ramadan, but the sentence will still be carried out.

The severity of the sentence meted out to Ms. Kartika – she would have been the first Malaysian woman to be caned – caught many Malaysians by surprise. The 32-year-old mother of two was sentenced to six lashes with a rattan cane after being caught drinking beer at a hotel in Pahang state in 2007.

Drinking alcohol is illegal for Malaysia's Muslims, who make up about 60% of the nation's 27 million people and are subject to Islamic Shariah law in additional to civil law. Those caught doing so usually are subjected to a fine or brief prison sentence, while Malaysia's non-Muslims, including large ethnic-Chinese and Indian minorities, are free to drink and aren't subject to Shariah law.

Ms. Kartika's sentence has triggered a debate about whether caning was too harsh and humiliating a punishment for a multiracial country such as Malaysia. She couldn't be immediately reached for comment, but her sister Ratna told the Associated Press that Ms. Kartika was "stressed" by Monday's decision to delay her punishment.

Earlier on Monday, Ms. Kartika began traveling to a prison near Kuala Lumpur where the caning was due to be carried out, but was then released and returned home by Islamic officials. It initially appeared that Malaysia's religious authorities had decided that they couldn't legally detain Ms. Kartika in a secular prison while her punishment was carried out.

Later, officials said the punishment would be delayed until after Ramadan. People familiar with the situation say Islamic judges are now discussing whether to maintain the caning sentence handed down to Ms. Kartika.

Both The New York Daily News and People quote witnesses that say Cyrus and Hemsworth played an intense game of tonsil hockey at the Nashville airport on Wednesday.

In fact, actor Alex Emanuel was standing a few feet away and said the rumored couple was "full-on making out." He told People:

"[Miley] jumped into his arms and threw her arms around his neck and kissed him and leaned back and he was dipping her. It was like a scene out of an old movie where the guy's getting on a train and they're saying their goodbyes."

Miley has admitted that she and Liam hang out by themselves. Less than a week ago, she Tweeted:

Advertising rates have hit a record high on the Middle East’s free-to-air satellite television channels, a new study shows.

But the average rate of US$3,362 (Dh12,348) for a 30-second spot remains well below prices charged by channels in other regions, an analysis by the Arab Advisers Group said.

With terrestrial television kept under tight control by government information ministries, the Middle East has had a boom in the number of satellite broadcasters in recent years.

There are now more than 475 free satellite channels in the region, with more than 200 launched since late 2006, and almost half with headquarters in the GCC.

Audiences have also been growing across the region, drawn by successful networks such as Al Jazeera and MBC.

But Arab Advisers said the networks had yet to fully capitalize on these growing audiences because of the lack of a single, credible audience-measurement system, without which TV networks struggle to demonstrate the popularity of channels and programmers, putting advertising buyers at an advantage.

In the UAE, one of the region’s most important advertising markets, two competing companies produce television viewer figures, but neither base their numbers on the electronic “people meter” systems that have become an industry standard elsewhere.

Both companies call random viewers and ask them to recall which programmers they watched in the previous day, a system prone to considerable human error.

Advertisers and networks applauded a recent announcement by the National Media Council, the industry regulator, that it would commission a television viewer ratings system based on people meter technology.

Lebanon is the only other country in the region to employ such a system, which produces the precise, comparative viewer data that networks need for premium advertising rates.

Blizzard Entertainment’s annual “BlizzCon” event is in full swing, and the first major announcement is the revelation of a new expansion pack for World of Warcraft” Cataclysm. The release schedule has not been announced.
“Soon, Deathwing the Destroyer will return to Azeroth, and his eruption from Deepholm will sunder the world, leaving a festering wound across the continents,” reads the press release. Deathwing is a mighty dragon hidden in a secluded sanctuary.

The expansion will feature two new races: the werewolf-like worgen, a new race aligned with the Alliance, and the goblins, playing with the Horde. The level cap has been raised to 85. The “classic zones” have been altered and updated with new content. and new high level zones will be added. More raid content will be added, along with new race and class combinations, such as gnome priests, blood elf warriors and more. Guilds can also progress to earn advancements, levels and achievements, new Player vs Player (PvP) objectives and new rated Battleground areas, a new secondary profession — archeology — that lets you unearth artifacts and earn unique rewords, and the ability to explore Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms using flying mounts — heretofore limited only to high-level areas.

Blizzard notes that there will be “incremental tweaks and updates” to the graphics engine in Cataclysm that will require some increases to the game’s minimum system requirements, but it refrained from identifying what those requirements will be.

New GCT assistant ‘born to coach’

One might say that Shep Campbell was born to be a football coach.

His father, former Razorback player Louis Campbell, has coached at several division one colleges, including Southern Missouri, Oklahoma State and the University of Arkansas and was even on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff in 1989. After following in his father’s footsteps and also coaching at several universities, Campbell is the newest addition to Jeff Conaway’s staff at Greene County Tech.

“My dad has coached (football) since I was born,” Campbell said. “So, (coaching football) is kind of in the blood.”

Campbell said his father coached at SMU in 1977 and was at the University of Alabama from 1979 to 1984 and at OSU from 1985 to 1988 before coaching in the NFL at Tampa Bay in 1989. He said his father recruited and signed current OSU head coach Mike Gundy.

“Gundy was the quarterback (when my father was at OSU) and Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas were tailbacks,” Campbell said.

Campbell said his father coached at U of A for 18 years and he considers Fayetteville home.
Campbell said he started coaching football while he was in college. He said he played football for the University of Central Arkansas, but when a knee injury ended his football career, he transferred to U of A and began student coaching at Fayetteville High School in 1998.

Campbell said, after graduating in 2001, he “bounced around all over the place.” He said he was a graduate assistant at Baylor University in 2002.

Campbell said he also coached at several universities and high schools including University of Arkansas Monticello, East Carolina and Tennessee. He said his luck was not very good coaching with the Volunteers.

“The only losing season they had in 27 years, I was there for in 2005,” Campbell said with a laugh. “We went 5-6 that year.”

It was while coaching at Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn. that Campbell found his way to GCT. He said Conaway had gotten his name through another coach at Lambuth. Campbell said Conaway was looking to fill the vacancy on his coaching staff left by Bart Hyde. He said being from northwest Arkansas, he was familiar with what Conaway had done a Shiloh Christian.

“There’s been a lot of progress made here (at GCT),” Campbell said. “He (Conaway) is getting it done.”

Conaway said Campbell made an immediate impact on his team during a 7-on-7 contest earlier this year in Fayetteville. He said Campbell’s first contact with the GCT players had an immediate positive effect on the team.

“(The players) didn’t know who he was, but he started coaching those (defensive backs) up,” Conaway said. “You should’ve seen our defensive players perk up. In a matter of seconds, he brought instant intensity and excitement. He changed our defense in the first minute on the job.”

Campbell said he has been fortunate to have learned coaching philosophies not only from his father, but some other fine coaches.

“Nothing I say is original. I’m the best copycat in the world,” he said. “I copy from my dad (and other coaches). It’s a game of inches, feet and details. You’ve got to take care of details.”

Campbell coaches the GCT secondary and special teams. He said he is excited to be in the Eagles’ Nest and looks forward to the future.

“Paragould is a beautiful city,” Campbell said. “It’s an unbelievable group of coaches here. They’re knowledgeable and they relate good to the kids.”

Scores killed as series of blasts hits Baghdad

Baghdad was today hit by a series of huge explosions, killing at least 86people and injuring hundreds more, as Iraq suffered its bloodiest violence since US troops withdrew from urban areas at the end of June.

The deadliest of the six blasts – which happened in quick succession – targeted the foreign ministry.

The truck bombing killed at least 59 people, a toll expected to rise as rescue workers remove rubble, and injured 250.

The 10-storey building, just outside the heavily fortified Green Zone, was severely damaged in the explosion. Concrete slabs were blown away, crushing nearby cars.

"The windows of the foreign ministry shattered, slaughtering the people inside," an employee at the ministry told Reuters. "I could see ministry workers, journalists and security guards among the dead."

The force of the explosion damaged nearby buildings, covering a large area in debris and broken glass.

Windows in the parliament building, inside the Green Zone, were blown out by the explosion.

The apparently coordinated attacks began with a car bombing near the finance ministry in northern Baghdad.

A later blast, also close to the ministry building, targeted a joint Iraqi police and army patrol, killing eight people and injuring 22.

Another explosion in the commercial area of the Baiyaa district, in the west of the capital, killed two people and wounded 16.

Officials said a bombing in the commercial district of Bab al-Muadham killed six people and injured 24.

The attacks demonstrate that insurgents maintain the capacity to carry out spectacular bombings at will.

A recent rise in the number of explosions has hit efforts to restore a semblance of normality to Baghdad.

In recent months, Iraqi security forces have begun removing concrete blast walls, which have been credited with helping reducing violence.

US troops withdrew from Iraq's cities on 30 June under a security pact that outlines a full US withdrawal by the end of 2011.

The US president, Barack Obama, has ordered all combat troops out of Iraq by the end of next August, leaving up to 50,000 soldiers in training and advisory roles.

Today's attacks came six years to the day after the first large insurgent bombing following the 2003 invasion of Iraq destroyed a UN building in the north of Baghdad, killing the Brazilian envoy, Sérgio Vieira de Mello, and 13 others.

In the years since, thousands of people across the country have died in explosions.

The level of violence had subsided over the past 18 months, but the relative calm has been disturbed by recent attacks.

Afghanistan bombing: suicide attack at Nato base in Kabul kills seven

Personnel with the International Security Assistance Force — ISAF — were among the casualties, who included passers-by and dozens of workers in the Transportation Ministry opposite.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes just five days before Afghanistan’s nationwide elections.

The suicide car bomb was detonated in the heavily guarded neighbourhood around the heavily fortified military compound in the Afghan capital of Kabul that houses the Nato headquarters, the US Embassy and the Afghan presidential palace.

A driver apparently penetrated at least one security checkpoint and detonated the vehicle about 30 yards from the entrance.

Blooded and dazed victims, including children who congregate outside the Nato gate to sell gum to Westerners, wandered the streets after being caught in the blast.

Windows of nearby shops were shattered and blood was left smeared on the ground.

“I was drinking tea in our office when a big explosion happened,” said Abdul Fahim, an Afghan in his mid-20s who sustained leg injuries. “I lay on the ground and then I saw wounded victims everywhere, including police and civilians.”

A Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the blast. He said the bomb contained 1,100 pounds of explosives. Mujahid at first said the bomber was on foot, then later called back and said it was a suicide car bomb attack.

It was the first major attack in Kabul since February, when eight Taliban militants attacked three government buildings simultaneously, an assault that killed 20 people and the eight attackers.

Taliban insurgents have vowed to disrupt the elections and have stepped up their attacks in recent weeks.

There are expected to be questions about how the car was able to get down one of the most heavily protected streets in Kabul just days before the elections.

The bomber was able to evade several rings of Afghan police and detonate his explosives at the doorstep to the international military mission, an assault possibly aimed at sending a sign that the Taliban can attack anywhere it wants.

The Nato compound sits beside the US Embassy and shares the same street as the presidential palace.

Nato headquarters has several large, concrete blocks and steel gates that prevent anyone from reaching the entrance, and the bomber was not able to breach those barriers.
